God's Hands Upon Me

Reverend Rudine D. Viorla

I would ask myself, What wrong with me? Why did God make me different? By my time in middle school, I was beginning to feel that I was doomed to failure.

Rudine Viorla’s struggles began as a black girl living in poverty in the “Jim Crow” south before World Word II. She struggled through twelve years of school and graduated in the last third of her class. The author writes, “Somewhere along the way I sought the Lord. He heard my cries and took control over my life.”

Today, she has overcome her dyslexia and reading problems to become an ordained minister working on her doctoral degree after a successful career as a nursing supervisor in New York City, then earning bachelors and masters degrees in theology. She serves as a volunteer minister at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, New Jersey. In June, 2008, she be awarded her doctorate at 74 years young.
