walking on water
One of the things I loved best about my uncle’s lakeside property was strolling out on the dock, off the end of the diving board and continuing to walk across the water. I would stroll out to the middle of Graham Lake, then turn and look back at the shore hundreds of feet from the shore. It was almost as much fun as diving deep into the water and paddling around the surface. Now I was standing firmly atop the surface. [Continue reading]

Not all are created “equal,” but all should be treated with equal compassion, respect and dignity.

St. Paul wrote, “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). So, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, here are some of my favorite columns that explore equality:

Am I a “feminist”? Yes and no. (Gender equality is complicated!)

James Robert Watkins: ex-slave, author, soul brother I’m proud to call this social reformer family!

Race relations by the numbers An award-winning cover story I wrote after a summer of racial unrest and violence

What was St. Paul thinking when he wrote “Women must be silent”?!

On January 13, 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating January 22 National Right to Life Day. I wish the day wasn’t limited to simply the unborn. So, here are my favorite columns on several right-to-life issues:

Capital punishment: serious questions

Ethuanasia and “dying with dignity”

Is it a life or a choice?

Pro-life from womb to tomb

I’m grateful my mom was “pro-life.” I hope my children will be!

Top things my Mom taught me

January 7th, 2019 | Posted by jameswatkins in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

mom
For eight years Mom longed to be reunited with her “sweetie.” Thursday night she got her wish—suddenly and with no pain. I’ll be sharing this tribute at tomorrow’s funeral:

I have in my right hand, direct from my home office in Corn Borer, Indiana, today’s category: top ten things my Mom taught me. Actually, there are probably thousands: how to tie my shoes, do laundry, decorate Christmas cookies, ride a horse . . . the list goes on and on. But here are, what I consider, the top ten: [Continue reading]

Thanks for all the love and prayers we have sensed during Mom’s chronic medical issues and since her death. Keep them coming.

My annual predictions for the New Year
My annual predictions for the New Year have been 99 percent accurate for the past 20 years. I know, it’s kind of scary!

God has a plan for the new year
Yep! He has a plan for your relationships, schedule, location and more for the new year as evidenced in the Christmas story. He’s more organized and in control than the best party planner!

Keeping those resolutions
From the award-winning The Why Files series, here’s hope and help for “Breaking Habits Before They Break You.” You can develop new habits in the new year.

More than lighted balls drop on New Year’s Eve
Time Square’s lighted ball gets all the press, but other cities across America drop all kinds of things at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Some very strange things!

Have a God-directed New Year!
